Behind the scenes

In the 1980s, I was the managing editor for Transworld Skateboarding Magazine. I left that comfortable world to pursue college and travel, which occupied most of the 1990s. Upon settling in Portland, Oregon, I had a B.A. in philosophy and a master’s degree in urban and regional planning. I combined everything I learned from those degrees to pursue a career in web design, which I have been doing since 1997.

I’ve worked with non-profit organizations, elected officials, government agencies, universities, small- and medium-sized businesses, and individuals. I enjoy helping people tell their stories, on and offline. The rise of social media has only increased the ability for people to communicate, although it is still a challenge to get organizations to understand how they can use it.

I've written for magazines and online publications. I recently had an article published at Digital Web Magazine, where I was formerly an editor-in-chief. In my spare time, I write screenplays and make short films.

“Dialogue can thus produce an environment where people are consciously participating in the creation of shared meaning. Through this they begin to discern their relationship to a larger pattern of collective experience.”
